Living in Brazil for the last 12 years, I find myself pointing out some of the sore spots of the U.S. to surprised locals. Yes, homelessness is a big problem. No, there is no free healthcare except in certain limited circumstances. Crime, random shootings, road rage, pollution, all exist. At the same time, I'll defend American tastes and culinary options to those who think that American subsist on burgers and weak, tasteless coffee.

I don't seek to sour anyone on the country (or anyplace), but just to remind everyone to take their stereotypes with a dash of salt. Who knows, even Scandinavia must have some shortcomings!
